A major religious milestone took place in the Monastery of the Mother of Good Counsel at San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, Philippines on 26th February 2006. The day saw the unveiling of a series of paintings depicting the life and works of St. Augustine which were the work of the world-renowned Filipino painter, Rafael G. Pacheco.
The unveiling took place on the occasion of the opening of a Retreat house on the monastery grounds. The new building was dedicated to the late Mother Alessandra Macajone O.S.A., who originally visited the Philippines over fourteen years ago to study the possibility of founding the monastery that now exists at Bulacan.
Both the retreat house and the paintings were jointly organised by the Augustinian contemplative nuns at Bulacan and the Italian Federation of the Augustinian Monasteries of Italy, who financially supported both gaols. The Augustinian church and monastery are located at Carmel Farms, Purok 8, Tungkong Mangga in San Jose Del Monte City in Bulacan
The paintings are the work of leading Filipino folk artist Rafael Pacheco of Morong, Rizal. He is the nation?s foremost finger-painter. The first solo exhibition of his work took place in Manila in 1972, then in California 1984, China 1987, Iraq 1988, London 1990, Tokyo 1990, Egypt 1991, Paris 1992, and Singapore 1994.

This Augustinian art project began in April 2004, when a delegation composed of Filipino and Italian nuns, led by Sister M. Monica Gianfrancesco O.S.A., Superior Delegate, travelled to the mountain art studio of painter-sculptor Pacheco in Morong, Rizal, Philippines, and commissioned this series of paintings.
